Default XC40 - Wireless Charging

Hi all, first post.

Moving up from a 2016 V40 to a 2020 plate XC40 in March, and was just wondering about the add-ons that can be added easily after purchase.

Obviously there are things like neck cushions and roof racks etc, but does anyone know if the Wireless Charging mat is an easy after delivery add-on?

I didn't include it in my spec and think it'd be a nice addition.

You might still be able to add it to your spec - talk to your Dealer to see when the last date for alterations is - usually a few weeks before the actual factory build date.

Hi Davewils82.
Have a look at this site:

https://www.air-charge.com/aircharge...tomotive/volvo

I contacted these guys and they advised speaking direct to my dealer who can add it as an after-market kit. I haven't done so yet as I am due a service soon so will speak to them then.
Regards

Default Have wireless charging on XC40, but wouldn't again

Avoiding FOMO, I specified the wireless charging option. Two issues mean that I wouldn't buy it if I had my time again.

Firstly, mobile reception in that location is particularly bad. I normally end up moving the phone. Thereby losing charge exactly when I really need it.

Second, the charge rate is a fraction of what is achieved with a cable.

The rest of my spec and the car as a whole, I'm delighted with.

I cant believe they are not using a 10w charger, in this day an age, thats just crazy.

Does it make any difference to the charging speed and or signal if you spin it round so its upside down (not face down) or horizontal? so that the internal aerial is not under the dash?

I dont have a new car so ive always used (since inception) a phone holder with fast chargers, if youre like me and prefer a phone holder, then perhaps that idea would be preferable, wires can be routed so not unsightly, but dont be tempted to use the USB for the holders cable cause i bet ya lucky if its even a 1a in volvo?

If that USB socket is at least a 2amp then thats a bonus, just get a cable with those magnetic connectors and a holder perhaps? Dont get one of those tacky gold or silver automatic holders....

I always go for a Brodit holder for my phone. Expensive (but not by Volvo standards) but very flexible and robust.
