S90 ride quality on 20s
Hi everyone,
I'm closing in on a deal on an Inscription / Inscription Pro S90 and have a question about wheels - are 20" rims going to harm the ride? I test drove an R-Design which I think was on 20s - I definitely slowed down over speed bumps! Any of you running an Inscription Pro on 20 inch wheels and how do you find the ride? They do look good filling the wheel arches, but I'd ordinarily be thinking about more side wall. Not sure how receptive a dealer would be on a "great car if you can swap the wheels for 18s..." request |

My dealer told me that the suspension on R-Design is stiffer than on Momentum/Inscription. Is it true? When browsing internet, the info I am getting is that R-Design is purely a design thing and suspension/engine/transmission is standard.
I am about to sign an order for Momentum tomorrow but I am not very thrilled with Momentum inside (kind of ordinary) and comfort seats lack some support for my 190cm/85kg so I am looking at my options and it seems like R-Design with Sport seats could be a way to go (only 1500EUR more vs Momentum for my configuration). But then I am thinking if D5 is the right engine for that kind of car, if not to go with T6 310hp instead

The R Design has a lower sports chassy and suspension set up, so it is a firmer ride (it is still comfortable thought). Its on the volvo car configurator if you want to check it out click on view standard features.

In Configurator, choose V90, R-Design, scroll down below car pic and click on drop-down menu Show Features.
Or see brochure, R-Design (p.54 in MY18.5), last para: “...V90 R-Design benefits from an advanced sport chassis.” Also mentioned in price list.

if you want comfort, DON'T get 20" wheels
I have 20" Summer and 17* Winter wheels on my XC90 R-Design 20" gives much sharper handling at a cost of comfort, due to the smaller sidewalls. If your area you drive in has good condition roads, then it'll be fine. As soon as you hit rougher roads you'll wish for those 17" wheels with larger sidewalls. When I drove in the south of the UK last Summer, the roads where so rough the ride comfort was awful and It threw out my wheel alignment on some potholes / rough roads.

There are 3 chassis/suspension configurations available.
-Normal -R-design -Four-c If you want comfort, then the only option is Four-C

I have 20” rims on a S90 Inscription. I have absolutely no issues with the ride. It is much more forgiving than my previous Audi with 17” rims on Sport suspension.
My only issue is the lack of sidewall buffer to prevent kerbing. The diamond cut alloys appear to very ‘soft’ and easy to damage |

Quote:
But - having just checked latest price lists, these options are for V90 only - Four-C & S-L are not available on S90 at all - the only option is the Lowered Sports Chassis on R-Design trim - but the OP is looking at Inscription, which has standard Dynamic chassis only - whatever that means! Which makes his question about wheel sizes all the more pertinent to comfort.

I have 20 or 21 on my S90 r-design pro and I live in an area full of humps. I take all of them about 5-10mph - no point risking it and it doesn’t feel comfortable hitting them any faster.
