bad fuel mileage
my 1972 164e is getting terrible fuel economy with no noticeable loss of performance, any ideas??

I dont think you can expect anything better than bad economy with a 164E ! 16 mpg wasnt uncommon in it's day ! all you can do is make sure the co is about 2 5 and the Manifold pressure sensor is set correctly and the basic timing and valve clearance and plugs etc are within specification .
if the mpg was better but has dropped off and it still goes like a rocket then suspect a rich mixture the pressure sensor can be adjusted ...
