Wow.

Scarborough is a nice spot...there is always retirement however I think you would do better to select a warmer destination.
An aside I know but one hours labour £65 . My local Volvo dealer charges around £150

On the same theme our lords and masters at the EU world had a brain wave and made a rule that programming gear should be available to all garages . Suddenly the gear was available on e-bay and guess what ? The car thieves bought it and are currently stealing new BMW's , Audis etc. Fortunately I dont think Volvo caved in . So its probably best if its a Main Dealer job only . At least you will still find your car where you left it
I have been quoted a total of over £450 for a spare programmed key for my son's V70.

You should be able to get a mobile car locksmith to come to your house, programme and supply a second key for around £200.

I know I did last year, but I am nowhere near Lancaster, so the Blok I used won't be much use.

A further bonus of getting an "official" Volvo replacement fob is that they will also remove any lost/mislaid second coded key from their system - just in case someone else has it and fancies taking your car. On Sensus equipped cars (well, on my 2017 V40 at least) you can see how many keys are registered to your car. Ours says two, but we bought it in October with just one key. So, I am biting the bullet and getting a second key through Volvo...

If your key fob has just got worn out or damaged, then you can do what I did recently with my V70 - buy secondhand key fobs with little wear and swap all the working parts over. I now have two fobs that look like new for a very reasonable outlay.
