Default MOT Lambda test....?

Jusy looking at the lambda test on the emissions check, and notice that the max permitted value is 1.030, and mine today was 1.026, which seems very close to max!!

I wonder what can be done to reduce this figure, any ideas??

Could be that the lamda sensor is ageing. I think they only last so long. I'm no expert but apparently they give a signal which toggles high-low every so-many milliseconds, as they age the toggling rate gets slower, and the sensor becomes less efficient. Or it could be sending a low signal so the ECU sends a signal to hose-in more fuel than the engine really needs. I noticed the emissions on my car had gone sky-high compared with last year's MOT and last week the engine management light came on and I'm suspecting the lamda sensor too.

I'm told that a whole tin of Forte engine treatment and an Italian tune uo actually works wonders for the emissions, if done shortly before the MoT

Sorry. Lot of independents etc use the various Forte's treatments, like reDex but better, use a whole can to about a quater of a tank of fuel, (Much more concentrated dose than the usual 'running' treatment).
Italian tune up is take the car for a decent burn up the motorway, 3500-4000rpm for a couple of minutes. Its supposed to clean the carbon out the system, and clean up the sensor as well in the process.
Mike Brace recommends it for 240 engines, and various others have seen improvements on the whiteblock engines too.
