GT Kit
Hi Guys
I feel like stranger to the forum after being absent for so long over the festive period! Feels good! Lots to read though... Anyway, was wondering ... the GT kit that was available from the R-Sport department with the progressive Solex carb ... Does anyone have a picture of it actually installed? I have seen tones of pics of the kits but none actually installed. Of course there are hundred of the equivilent Weber installations with pics but these are easily given away with the square filter. Do these owners not like to show them off? Sinnful really! Dylan |

I fitted a Volvo tuning kit to a 144S back in 1973 but it ran 2 x solex carbs , copies of the 45 dcoe Weber . It was said to produce about 140 bhp .
The car did go very well but lacked low rpm torque due to the camshaft . What year is your kit from?

Hi Clan
I don't actually have a kit, I found these parts sheets on a swedish Volvo forum. The kit you are talking about is either the stage 1,2,3,4 kits. I've seen a reasonable amout of pic for those setups. What happened to your 144 or do you still have it? Some say that the Weber equivilent is a bit of a waste of time, I wonder if the Solex is any different as its the same concept as the Weber. Its very rare though so I've never heard or read any commentary on it. ClassicVolvoShop usually pulls the wierd and wonderful rare parts out of his hat! Any comments Mr ClassicVolvoShop? Dylan |

gt kit
strikes me as being a bit strange this because icorrect me if i am wrong but i am sure that top gear are NOT allowed to endorse any items, i have been to their website and cannot find any mention of parts endorsements????? also if you look at the pics they look to me like they are from america??? certainly sounds a bit iffy to me, it looks cheap and nasty, not at all professional do it???...... |

The 144S was the boss's car where i worked ( AWO500K ) It had the sport instruments too and he imported an alloy flywheel from Sweden for it . It must have been nearer 180 bhp actualy as the standard GL was 135 bhp !
We fitted a R Tuning kit to his 345 in 1981 that was 90 bhp instead of 70 .

webers for B20
heres a link to a pair on e bay right now these manifolds look close to the R Sport manifolds of yesterday,
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...3AIT&viewitem= also redline of america has a 40MM dual sidedraft kit for B18 and B20 engines.and there is a member from this board with a pair of manifolds on e bay that closes tomorrow, i must say having owned a volvo with dual 42MM's one with dual 45MM's and a car with dual 50MM webers on them i will say that they are far from a waste. lol there is nothing like the sound of a hot B20 with a pair of webers on it. i am currently collecting parts to build a dual 45MM weber carburated motor for my 122 and i love them. |
