Exclamation my 145

Hi to everyone at volvo, just a question about my 145, I've notice that when first driving off the brakes are a bit stiff when braking, this seems to happen when the weather is cold, is that normal? Also my driver and passenger leather seats are ripping on the stitching! Does anyone know if it is expensive to repair? or what I could do to them getting any worse....

Hi there, and welcome.

Do you mean that the pedal needs more effort to press than normal? If so it should not be doing this. Likely to be a problem with the servo (e.g. a vacuum leak). You should get it checked out by a mechanic for safety.

Are they leather or vinyl? The latter was standard on a 145. Or did you buy the white 145 with red 164 front seats that was on ebay?

A retrim is the only real fix, quite expensive but prices vary, so shop around. You might stop it getting worse by gluing some fabric on the back of the leather, but that still involves removing the leather from the seats. OK if you can do it yourself, but not viable to be paying someone to do that.

Cheers

John

Hi John
No I don't have to put more pressure on the brake pedal, it's just when weather is cold the pedal is a bit stiff when braking, but after about 5/10 mins of driving it's ok, in normal temp weather the brake pedal is perfectly normal.

No I didn't buy that white 145 on ebay even though it's a lovely car, no I've got another 145 which is also white and very much the same as the one on ebay. maybe the seats are vinyl then but, they smell and look like leather? and they are original for sure. well I'll have to shop around, maybe for now I'll just put some cushions on the seats.
Oh I will let you know the tyre size it some point.
Thanks John

Hi, i have had the same problem with my 145 dl, first press of the brake pedal was stiff and the second and there on after was fine. It did this for a couple of days but got worse until the first press no brakes until the pedal was about half way and then suddenly all wheels lock and stop dead.
I have now fixed the fault by replacing one way valve, put some ptfe tape on valve to aid the seal, new servo pipe and clips.
All this made a great difference but not quite enough,so i decided to bleed the master cyl
by starting at the connection close to the servo (primary) and bled it,the fluid that came out was like water until clean fluid came out. Then to the secondary, clean fluid and some bubbles, tryed it hey presto perfect pedal and stops on a pin the only prob then brake failure lights on on dash,a quick read of manual on how to reset valve an lights are out.
Hope this will help,

Cheers yellow 145
