Default Haldex Service

I have a 2011 D5 XC70. It's done 77500 miles.

Struggling to find out the service interval for the Haldex (fluid and filter change)

Can anyone enlighten me!

The Haldex (like auto gearboxes) according to Volvo are a sealed for life unit.......ie no service required.
BUT I have seen a recommendation, based on an Audi/VW AWD schedule that they have the oil in the Haldex changed every 20K or 40K and the filter changed at the other mileage ( Ican't remember which way round it is)
People who run the autobox to high mileages (+100K ) in the main suggest flushing the box to keep changes smooth. Perhaps the Audi/VW scheule is over zealous, but at +77k, I'd be looking to change the oil and filter.
The issue is that to get the filter off is PIA, as most people have to remove the prop and exhaust. I have read of a procedure to remove the filter in situ, but its not straight forward.
The Haldex has no drain, so you suck out and refill to the level then remove 100ml. If you overfil there can be pressure issues, the removal is a precaution.
Before you withdraw the old fluid blow through the discharge plastic pipe to disturb as much crud in the haldex as possible, this then comes out with the old oil. I stood my old fluid in a glass jar, after 24hrs I had an inch of crud settled out.

Good luck.

Cheers
Bob

Thank you for the info. On one hand I think I should do it for good maintenance but on the other, it's working spot on and I'm concerned I'll just upset it. Food for thought.

Changing the oil in the Haldex is easy. On a score 1-10 its a 1. Change the oil but store it in glass jars. If you get very little crud settled out, I'd worry less about the filter than if it were 1" or so deep like mine.

I re used my old oil several times to flush out my Haldex ( I got up to six times) with several jars of fluid, before I filled with new.
I tried to renew the filter, but could not get it done in situ, nor could I get the prop disconnected, so my filter at 113K is still the original - but the oil is spotless! - and the AWD still works.

Cheers

Just like the no need to change power steering fluid or coolant myths.

When I asked dealer to change my gearbox oil, manual transmission, he could not find a Volvo menus price for it and therefore belived it was not nessesary. After insisting we agreed on cost of oil and half hour labour. I seriously doubt the oil was changed as the fitter reckoned the oil coming out was like new and he used a litre of oil for the job. I know the job takes 2.2 litres and what comes out is certainly darker than the new oil as I have done the job myself since and recon to do it every 35/40 K miles.

The coolant I monitor regularly as my year had a problem with the factory fill coolant breaking down, it has been replaced and the new volvo fluid is supposedly fill for life, like I'm going to belive that one.

My point is if you want it changed then either do it yourself or stand and watch it being done, for if they think there is no need for it then it wont be.
