I started the New Year with a new Volvo a Manual Gul T-5r Estate to be exact

200K - 2 owners Kirk and Spock from the mileage

I Drove my recent purchase home New Years Eve and is currently shoehorned into a lock up garage, seriously, there is a wall opposite and the distance from the garage door to the wall is considerably shorter than the length of the 850 necessitating backing it in on the angle and lots of shunting backwards and forwards (Thank goodness for PAS). If they paint the wall opposite I’m screwed, I’ll never get it out :-)

Rational
Find something affordable that could have a rolling mechanical restoration undertaken on it.

My thinking was that even a mint 100K or less car is likely to still have 25 year old major components on it and I couldn’t afford one even if I could find one.

It’s going to be a keeper, I think Gul’s are always going to be in demand and I should be able to sell it easily if I ever need to (God forbid).

I drove it back 100 + miles seemed to go OK, boosted OK , to be fair I took it fairly slowly and only hoofed it just before I got home (Which put a smile on my face to say the least)
Steering and brakes seem OK (Goes in a straight line and pulls up in a straight line)
So my current thinking is to keep the car original
Plan
1. Find a lockup garage that I can Get the car in and out of easily!, It’s only coming out of the garage that it’s in if I can find somewhere else to keep it.

2. Check the engine over, compression test to see what the engine is like rings ,valves etc to see if it’s worth keeping and investing money in or if I need a new engine

3. Draw up a list of things that need doing and group together any that can be done at the same time.

Details Have been PM'd

Mine has since changed hands and now resides in Newcastle, undergoing a complete restoration. Glad to see somebody is going to return it to it's former glory... miss the unrefined power delivery and general chaos but wouldn't have another. It's been emotional.
