For those inclined towards VWWs, this Amazon is quite nice.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/256507570...mis&media=COPY

It is left hand drive, which is a pity, but otherwise looks okay. Bidding is at £4,400 with a day to go, but I think the seller probably expects rather more. It will be interesting to see what it makes - and whether that meets the seller’s expectations.

Be an ideal holiday car for Volvo adventures, wonderful for a summer of cruising and camping in Netherlands, and perhaps further into Scandinavia. Perhaps you’d just need to have an open itinerary for failure to proceed moments😀😀

Forget hiring a motor, buy your own, and with a fair wind and everything crossed, you could get your money back ???

If only……..

Cheers
Steve

I had you in mind when I posted that eBay ad Steve. You like VWWs and this one would make a really nice motorcar with a bit of attention.

Poor thing.☹️
I noticed this one made £820 - I thought it would have been a good buy for £600, but someone was willing to pay a little bit more.

The seller tried to make a big thing about it being the second oldest 245 in the UK, I think in an attempt to drive the price up, but the market saw through that ruse.

The auction for the Amazon VWW got to £5,300, which I thought not a bad price, but it wasn't enough for the seller as it didn't make the reserve.

Perhaps we see it a few more times yet?

It sounds a lot but five years down the line there would not be a massive loss.

Five years enjoyable motoring!

Pretty thing, as you say.😀

I really do struggle to see the fascination with 30 year old motor cars. They aren’t close to being tax exempt and have poor fuel consumption, so they are expensive to run; at the same time they don’t have any of the advantages of more modern motor cars. A similar sized 10 year old car (for example my Skoda Superb estate) will cost about the same as this one’s asking price, only be £20/year to tax, return 50MPG and be far more reliable. Depreciation on a 10 year old motor car has largely already happened, so that will be much the same as the 30 year old one - until it starts getting close to qualifying as an historic vehicle. Once a vehicle gets to 40 years old it becomes tax and ULEZ exempt and the cost of ownership equation changes completely.

Just the thoughts of a grumpy man with a beard and a dog called Bob.
