LPG diagnostic socket S40 bi-fuel
Hi everyone,
Anybody know where is a LPG diagnostic socket? Volvo S40 bI-fuel 2001/2002. Where can I buy the interface for connection? Thanks Jack |

Hi Jack,
Sorry to be a bit vague on this, but I've only briefly investigated my S40's LPG electronics and it was some time back. The LPG ECU is directly under the radio head unit in the dashboard. Take the side carpet panels and trims off in the foot wells to get to it. Its in a grey diecast aluminium box with two large connectors on one side of it. I too was looking for LPG codes and the only one I could find was on Pin 29 of one of the connectors. The repeating code was there from power up and seems to be 30-40 bits (from memory) long but I never identified it. What problem are you having with the LPG Jack? I've picked up a bit of knowledge about the S40's LPG system and might be able to help It may also be possible that LPG ECU information might appear on the regular diagnostics connector in the driver's footwell. Kind regards Pete |

Having had a good read of the forum I can't find an answer to this one. It repeats Jack's question above actually.
Does anybody know if the 2002 model S40 bifuel 1.8 LPG ECU has a diagnostics connector? And if it does, where is it? In Vauxhalls the Koltec Necam EGI system has a 4 pin DIL connector for diagnostics located in one of the fuseboxes on a flying lead. And by earthing the grey wire (which I assume is one of the four wires?) you can get the LPG ECU to display its fault codes on the LPG LED. But the diagrams I've seen, of what looks a very similar LPG system, have different connectors on the LPG ECU. The Vauxhall one has 1No 32 pin connector and 1No 24 pin connector. The Volvo one has 2No 32pin connectors. Also, does anybody know how the LPG ECU codes are cleared if they are any? Are they reset by diagnostics software or cleared by a power cycle? Do any of the other Volvo models (S60? S80? ) have LPG ECU diagnostics connectors and if so where are they? |

My experience of manufacturers (Volvo Vauxhall) own LPG systems is as follows; If something goes wrong the system cannot be diagnosed and an alternative ECU will need to be set up on the car. This generally means a new 'front end' set up. Ie Prins Romano or other ECU, linked in with Prins, Romano etc injectors. What problems are you experiencing?

Problems were on this thread
http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?t=77203 But in short and with an update - I wanted to be be able to read out any LPG related codes (from anything anywhere ) before doing work on the car. I've just finished completely rebuilding the vapouriser and it's back in the car now. Haven't driven it anywhere yet but everything seems much stable now. Will report back on its effects soon. Original problems where: 1)Over a period of last 2,3,4 years gas mileage has steadily fallen. Maybe be fixed now having rebuilt the vapouriser. Although it passed the 1st and 2nd stage pressure tests the Oring against the 1st stage membrane had disintergrated. 2) Very recent problem of intermittent stalling, immediately on switch over to LPG when engine cold. 2nd stage vap pressure gauge showed nil reading at the point of switch over, so either tank solenoid, vap inlet solenoid failed or vapouriser internals jammed. Again problem maybe solved now after rebuild. Solenoid cracked but works okay. But I'm still on the hunt for LPG related codes ;-) Last edited by Pete_c20; Jun 8th, 2012 at 03:53. |
