Default Crap Copy Cap!

Apart from my replacement headlamps i buy Volvo, you all know that by now!

So two months ago i bought a copy reservoir cap off the bay, i thought it will do no harm a simple plastic part but how wrong was i...

Went up the M20 for about 10 miles drove off at a junction and at the traffic lights steam coming out between the bonnet and drivers wing.

The engine temp. was still ok so i pulled over and had a look and coolant had been pi$$ing out the new cap, must be a faulty washer. The reservoir was empty so had a gentle drive around the corner to a garage and topped up with water.

If i had gone further up the M20 it would of been disaster just because of a copy part for a fiver may of suffered a HG failure or even engine damage.

So much for inferior parts which i will never have again.

When i got home i fitted my old 15yr old one back on and it is still perfectly coolant pressure tight....... Good Old Volvo!!!!

This is on the V70 ok but still a Volvo!

Why change the original cap if there was nothing wrong with it?

The original reservoir was really dirty and difficult to see the level after 15 yrs and 160,000 so it was replaced along with a new cap.

As you can see it one pic. a new reservoir.

Did you not try popping a couple of steredent tablets in the old tank topped up with clean water and left over night, usually cleans the old tank up quite well, it's easy to remove from the car as you know - Mike

This is what i have been trying to tell owners for 3years i have been on here, i am not money bags or want to waste money but i know there is profit to be made by these manufacturers but if we don`t buy from them they will only get closed down and then we will all be on crap components which after 6 months will cost more money, so it is cheaper and more peace of mind.

I agree somethings we can get away with but now after just a stupid cap what are those things?

I don`t usually appear on here with a problem with my motors, perhaps that is testament to my ways?

Hello Mike, yes, i do know what you mean "old school ways" but i love my V70 to bits and thought it would be nice to replace a 15yr old part as it does look better. As i have gotten older i do less to motors but thought it just to keep me busy as well, well it certainly did that, i am carrying water in the spare wheel well now (in bottles)as i don`t trust anything.
