I’ve only got one key for my 99’ T5. It’s exported to here in France. Volvo want 300 ish euros to do me another.
I’ve asked in three key shops so far in supermarket malls, they’ve all said they can’t read the chip, but have said the one in XXX can and it’ll be 80- ish euros.
Not done it yet but gonna give it a try....
I think some of the Timpsons outlets in UK can do the same.

As far as I know-
From around the mid nineties Volvo changed the way the key chips worked, the later ones have a system that changes the passcode each time the key is used, so pointless to copy the code from a key to another as when one key is used the other will be useless as it would still hold the old code, to set up a new key one has to get into the car's computer and Volvo don't release that software. Hence the cost and hence the desire to do it by getting mechanical copies of the key and hiding the old one with the chip in the car. Timpsons can do the mechanical copy, although my local one had to order the blank specially.

That was the response that I got from Timpsons as well, 'S.R.', although C.P. Motors in Tamworth were more helpful, but at a price.

Regards, John.

That was my understanding, too, David, although as mentioned in my reply to 'S.R.', above, my local Timpsons couldn't help - maybe it depends on the branch?

Regards, John.

Regards, John.
Voltech (a widely respected Volvo independent in Glasgow) told me they can do it, but what they do is just go to Volvo to do it via them as only dealers can do it apparently.

Props to Volvo on taking security seriously but a pain to keep older cars affordable!

Alrighty looks like the secret key route for me!

Does anyone happen to have a wiring diagram for the antenna ring? I tried having a look but couldn't find anything useful.

I've ordered an antenna ring off ebay for about £28, I guess it will be ok to do trial and error with the wiring if I can't find a diagram?
