Well, the 2.5 10 valve is a very basic and unstressed engine (a good thing IMHO). As such, practically any currently available oil (of the correct viscosity) will do.
You can use 10/40 in these engines and I use Tesco's own brand. And, before anyone says anything, it meets API SL and ACEA A2/A3 standards - exactly the same as most name brand oils. It costs around £7 for 4 litres and they also do a 2 litre pack for about £4. I buy one of each and so can do an oil change for £11. Of course, you could pay 2 or 3 times that price for a name brand oil of the same spec - but I doubt your engine will notice the difference!

I was trying to decide if I needed synthetic / semi synthetic or other
as the engine has done 140k, and I'm not rich I'll go for a decent 10W/40 Many Thanks

10W40 is most fine for these engines, any brand.

My 2.5 10V engine had always had Mobil 1 in it, so I kept using it, Mobil 1 is now 0W/40, can I just change ot to normal oil like GTX, with out any problems. I have heardf going from Synthetic to standard can cause seal problems.

Synthetic tends to be thinner oil and can have somewhat of a detergent property, so can find it's way past seals. Where as semi, or dino oil, tends to be that bit thicker, and not as prone to causing leaks in older engines. |

I normally wait for Halfords to have their buy on get one free or 2 for £30,
I buy the fully synth 10w 40, works fine in my V70R, and i change it every 4k miles, National are doing a oil and filter change for £25 upto 6 litres of oil, Gary

When I changed mechanics, they swapped from normal mineral oil to Mobil 1.
I did notice that at 40mph in 4th gear the revs required on the same stretch of road were 500rpm lower for Mobil 1, so there is a difference. |

Can't see how swapping from one to another caused such a big difference, any of the "oil expterts" care to comment?
