It may be rather sad, but I always reset the trip between fill ups and I note the fuel used. Done it with my cars for years now. I have a manual XC60 D5 AWD MY 2016 and in September this year I had the Polestar software installed when they had it on offer. I know it is not meant to improve economy. If anything I would say Polestar has influenced me to put the pedal down a little bit more when pulling away.
My figures for this years driving show the same overall average for the year as being 37.37mpg. Pre Polestar for the first 9 months of the year it was 36.8 mpg, since the tweak it is 38.06mpg. Total miles covered this year have been 8324. The car comes out and does blasts of about 300 miles at a time. Around town and the immediate area, we use a BMW i3 EV. I mainly use supermarket slop, but twice a year give it the best part of a tank full Ultimate. Using the Ultimate in this way doesn't make a blind bit of difference to my mpg figures but just may be doing some good to clean the fuel lines/injectors etc. |

Mines a 2015 D5 AWD Auto with Polestar as well.
My App is currently showing me as Ave Speed of 42.8 mph & Ave Fuel Consumption of 39.2. Not sure about how I find the Mileage that's over, if it's the last 100 Days that'll be 7,197 miles

2009 XC60 D5 SE LUX AWD 6 speed manual
My 2009 XC60 D5 (185 bhp) AWD 6 speed manual is struggling to average anything over 33 MPG (mixed driving) ... is that normal ? I was hoping (it being a manual) I would see hi 30s to low 40s MPG.

If you look at the results of the poll above your 33MPG is within the averages - remember that driving style can be a big contributor to fuel consumption and that the 2009 had a slightly thirstier engine than later model engines.
With the XC60 the and many SUVs the general consensus is that the automatic boxes are more frugal than the manual versions. If you would like to eek out some better consumption and performance I would recommend getting a polestar chip. I noticed a definite fuel saving after installing the Polestar and I understand the older the MY of the Volvo the more dramatically the Polestar effects the tuning. Hope this helps... otherwise try read some hypermiling theads and articles to get tips on how you can change your driving style to conserve more fuel. Best wishes

It must be my leaded right foot causing the lowish MPGs, expecting too much from an ageing D5 engine hauling 1.9 tones of Swedish bulk. Driving the Golf R and a V8 Porsche in-between XC60 trips doesn't help my low MPG matters one bit I've not had the XC60 very long however I have been toying with an economy re-map idea and POLESTAR seems to be the premium option/choice, if a bit on the expensive side for relatively small gains. https://engineered.polestar.com/uk/p...al-6-gear-2009

AutoAddict, my XC60 D5 manual (MY2016), continues to return 37mpg. I am rather sad, I reset and record the trip miles each time I fuel up along with the amount of fuel needed to fill it up again. I've been doing this for the past 4 years and despite having the polestar optimisation done and since the start of this year using Costco's diesel fuel, it still gives the same average mpg. I don't thrash it everywhere and to be honest it doesn't do short runs, it goes out and gets warm. If I'm still around this time next year, I'll be interested to see if changing the tyres to Cross Climates, makes any difference! I don't really care, because it is the best car I've ever owned.
