Volvo Service: Both Rear Trailing Arm Bushes Broken

hi all,

newbie here, I've sent my volvo xc60 in for a full major service at a Volvo dealership.

I've just received my health check report and they have stated both my rear trailing arm bushes are broken and need replacing.

they have quoted £421.20

does this seem fair?

Post no.15 states £402 pounds, so I guess your quote is in the right ball park.

I had mine done under my extended warranty when the car was around 5 years old though the wear had been recorded in service reports at 3 years, so I have no personal experience of the cost.

Very surprised by the price quoted.

The full major (7 year) service is costing me £400. Bushes cost around £30 so find it a bit weird to charge a full service price for bush replacement

Big job replacing them - was the same on my V70 several year ago

Had mine done by a third party in March 17. They told me the bushes from Volvo are £90 each ex VAT, I reckon 3 to 5 hours labour but I don't know what the book times are, mine was (eventually) done under warranty so I don't know what the final costs were.

You can get bushes cheaper (they're from a Mondeo) and the labour, you could probably halve the Volvo price at an independent.

I had mine done on my previous V70 by an indy at approx. 140,000miles. Car was about 6 years old.

Both sides I think came to about £300, about 3 years or so ago.

He mentioned that he needed a special type of press fixture as they had to be pressed in to the arms at an angle. He borrowed the tool from a main dealer.

Thanks for the info, I've authorised the work to be done as it seems to be fair for replacing both sides.

I'm hoping this also fixes my steering issue! Sometimes when braking, the steering would suddenly shift to the right.

it is 4 hour job to do these bushes, at least the garage where I work charges that much for a Ford Mondeo. If you are a pro and have special rig, both sides can be done in 90 min tops.

Check front brakes, possibly sticky pads. I can't imagine sudden shift to the right being related to rear trailing arm bushes.

Are these under big load, surely they should last marathon 3-4 years?
