Ps - I phoned my Volvo dealer who said they had never been asked where to locate a tag before. According to Sanef it uses the same technology as the Dartford, Severn Crossings etc so surely there must be Volvos using them?

place it just to the right of the rear view mirror at the very top of the windscreen, I have tried it numerous other places and used to have to wind window down and point at sensor!, but now it works a treat.

Many thanks! Have looked again at my windscreen & there is a thin mottled area running around the top as well so will position it in topright bit by rear view.

No rain sensor on my 2010 model, but I stuck it on in the area behind the rear view mirror, passengers side as high as possible to the top of the screen and it worked without fail to the Alps and back.

Just returned from a trip to the Alps in a 61 plate XC-90. Stuck the tag on the black plate just to the right of the mirror and it worked a treat.

First time using you have to get alarmingly close to the barrier before it bleeps, but after that it was fine all the way to Tignes and back (which involves a surprising number of tolls)

Yes, you are right there are lots of tolls, in fact £135.60 to get to the Alps and back!!! That's without the £33.37 to setup, the deposit and use of the tag.

Has anyone tried one of these using a roofbox? With my roofbox we're about 2.2-2.3m's and i think if i recall correctly, some of these lanes have height restrictions (dangly bars) to prevent high vehicles????

I know when i went to the auto lanes last year i ended up paying class 2, as the sensors thought i was an HGV, so paid about 70% more than my in-laws in a 3 series.

When we used it on the XC90 with a roofbox last year about three tolls out of 12 or so had misread the car as a van when I checked the account statement - quick email to the UK operations team and the error was refunded [the refund took a while as they apparently check cameras etc?].

If it is any help I have a DartTag. The instructions for locating the DartTag say that the blacked out area on windscreens behind the rear view mirror is specifically intended for "tags" as used widely in Europe. I was sceptical, but mine is located out of view right behind the mirror and I have had no problems.

Sanef are all but useless, seriously.

Tried setting up an account with them for our intended trip to France this year, and refused both me and SWMBO... rang them this morning to find out why "we have a review team and they have declined you, nothing more we can do"

Why was it declined says I... "I don't know and it doesn't matter".

Despite the fact that the declined notices came through instantaneously on the website... so obviously no team has reviewed anything.

Glad it was declined, the ineptitude of the whole experience doesn't fill me with confidence with the company administering the system in the UK.

Looks like whacking it on Credit Card when we go is the way forward.
