failed mot
I put my xc90 in for its mot, it failed on the parking brake, took it to a mechanic
and he stripped the brakes down and cleaned all the hubs and shoes, rebuilt the wheels,i was taking it for the re-test, got to some traffic lights on a hill put on the park brake and the car slid about a wheel length, took it back to my man and he put new shoes on he readjusted the cables, took it for its retest and it failed. asked them at test center to fix problem, sorted an appointment tooik it another day and they took passenger seat out and adjusted the cables to 150 psi then passed the car, took car home and parked it up for the day, went out next day, reversed into a parking bay on a slight incline, applied parking brake, and guess what, it ran away so drove it back and left it in gear. anyone have any ideas please. |

It is up to them to sort it . If they do not know the finer details of how to do it then they need to let their local volvo do it who have the experience . The old discs could be worn on the rubbing surface or have fine traces of rust which comes off as a powder and acts like mini ball bearings between shoe and drum ( disc ) They probably have not bedded the shoes in on the road and re adjusted , How many clicks are there on the pedal? It should grip on the 3rd Click if all is adjusted properly .

You might also find aftermarket (non volvo) brake shoes are to small for the drum and don't work
