Assuming that the indicator timing is no longer governed by a bi-metal relay, but by a relay or solid-state
device triggered by a software generated signal, it is perhaps posible that the module reponsible for
generating the pulses sometimes doesn't complete a computing cycle in time to generate a new signal.
Perhaps the same module has more "work" to do while towing, making a "not in time" error (even) more likely.

my nsf indicator occasionally fails as though a bulb failure. however a new bulb only cures the problem temporarily. occurrs after approx 10 minutes driving.

Have the same thing - my indicators frequently have a tick (or two) which is out of sync with the others. I'd say it probably happens once in ten times I use the indicators and when it happens it's one or two ticks out of, say, 10-15 while indicators are active.

Seems like this is fairly universal then. Would expect to see an official fix / word on the matter at some point as dealerships must be getting this mentioned to them by customers.

Yes, I've noted this from pretty early on in ownership in June 2016. My wife doesn't pick it up, so for a while I thought it was just me and my permanent paranoia that something else is slightly wobbly with the platform!

I'll bite... Is it playing on a stereotype that Audi drivers wouldn't have the attention to detail or something like that?
