Awd fault light

Hi all was looking at a 2011 Xc 70 for sale. It had an issue with the haldex two years running where the light would appear.the prop was removed and the filter cleaned and oil refilled. This put me off buying the car. Have I dodged a bullet?

Without the aid of knowing the fault codes, you will never know. I'd suggest 3 main areas of DEM/haldex failure.
1) As you have identified the pump and oil.
2) The pressure switch within the DEM (an easy replacement fix)
3) Water ingress into the DEM unit causing damage to the electrical chips. - this was what happened to my V70 AWD R.
Fortunately, I had the benefit of DICE/VIDA but even then it was not plain sailing to sort. Without DICE/VIDA I'd have said it would have been impossible.
