Just had the "Engine System Service Urgent" message appear on my 2010 D5 XC90??
I left the car in the sun yesterday afternoon with no problems, came back to the car some 4 hours later to be met with the above message and a red warning triangle in the dash.

Car appeared to be in limp mode so I stopped it and re-started it and whilst the above message was still there the car seems to be out of limp mode but running a bit lumpy.

I had filled the car up earlier in the day but it ran fine until leaving it.

It's still under warranty so it's not the end of the world, but does anyone have any ideas??

You need to get it looked at in the dealer but first thought is Particle filter temperature sensor faulty ...

That's exactly what it was. Fixed while I waited in about half an hour by the excellent MRG Volvo in Chippenham.

Thanks Clan.

Excellent deduction! Where is the elusive sensor located?

Just got this fault code come up on my on my MY10 D5.

Called out Volvo assistance (now Mondial) but they were no use as the diagnostic tool they have couldn't read any codes on the Volvo. The chap said Volvo won't give them the genuine code readers so they try to make do with what they have but pretty poor to not be able to read anything.

I'll have to take it in to Volvo on Monday now and hope they can look at it for me there and then.

Any one got any ideas if the prior suggestion from Clan is a simple fix (something the dealer could do there and then ?) - the breakdown man said I would be entitled to a car if the Garage can't fix it within 4 hrs so I guess that's an option.

again you should still be in warranty unless you are over 60000 miles let the dealer fix it , most likely is that particle filter temperature sensor . The dealer wont have one , but if you are in early they can order one by 9:30 and have it by mid morning for you ..

Thanks Clan - your diagnosis was spot on.

I took it into my dealer 1st thing this morning and armed with this and your info re parts delivery timeline I was able to get the fault fixed whilst I waited (for 4 1/2 hours mind !).

Isn't it a bit of a coincidence that both cars are MY10's? Could there be a faulty batch of these due a recall in due course?

Guess what, 11pm last night Mrs S phones up, says red triangle light on and 'Engine System Service Urgent' message had come on, called VOC and they advised to drive to dealer to check it out, car not in limp mode but message stayed up after turning key on / off. Drive 2 miles to Bury St Edmunds dealership and left it there - awaiting diagnosis today. Its a 2010 Model D5 Active, just over a year old, done 12k miles, about the 3rd trip to the dealership so far, my 8 year old Corsa 1.7D, done 120k miles needs much less attention!

Kids not best pleased being woken at 11.15pm and driving 35mile round trip to collect their Mum!

We await the news.............................
