Default SatNav - Sensus

Preamble:
Please please please could we have a forum section just for SatNav?
Query:
My 2013 S80 has the non-internet Sensus system best described as the 3rd dashboard of the 3 pictures at
https://support.volvocars.com/uk/dow...spx?cstype=map
(Oh My Goodness: the Volvo maps site(s) are tough to negotiate!)
Click on that, then click on Europe, and then you can download the most recent maps version (appropriate to this technology) to a 32G stick, and then to your car.
Negative: v.30.16.04 dated 30/05/2016 is a bit ancient, and even my daily Scottish commute takes me along undocumented roads, let alone some difficult trips to England.
Hugely positive: for the 99.9% of the time that the SatNav knows where I am, this version shows the speed limits that apply, and is rapid and accurate where the limits change. On a more recent internet-capable model (2nd i.e. middle picture of 3) the map version did not show these, and could not be tweaked to do so. Another forum guru just said "typical Volvo cheapskate trick, regrettably becoming more and more common".
My question is: does anybody know when this particular version will be updated to v.30.18 or whatever? and if it does not show speed limits I would rather revert to the current v.30.16 - is this sort of regression possible or will the map supervising brain say "Sorry, you already have the best version for this specification"?

The speed limit capability has nothing to do with the map version, it is down to whether you have Sensus - in which case you have them, or Sensus Connevt in which case you don’t, unless you have the driver support pack installed and then the car reads the signs and displays them.

I have Sensus satnav in my 2015 model year V70. I find having a built-in satnav very useful, and voice control plus traffic information are added bonuses.

Having said that, I’ve found that there are a couple of things that I’m less happy about, and wonder whether these are baked in or configurable: -

1) The initially calculated arrival time at the start of a journey seems to assume that I’ll always be driving right up at the speed limit. Hence the arrival time tends to slip throughout every journey and leads to disappointment. This also makes the game of “Beat The Satnav” impossible to win since it constantly moves the goalposts. Tomtom satnavs, on the other hand, seem to allow for a more relaxed driving style.

2) Suggestion of alternative routes to avoid traffic and save time and miles rarely do so. Instead they often delay arrival further. A couple of weeks ago it took me off the clockwise M25 onto the M4 London-bound to avoid a serious jam on the M25. (I was heading for Aylesbury.) It then took me off the M4 at the next junction, up an A-road, and then round a roundabout and back down the A-road to the M4 and then sent me westbound on the M4 instead. I was then guided through Slough, which was at least as jammed up as the M25.

What does amuse me is that when I cancel route guidance, the voice sounds like Theresa May when she asks me if I’m sure about this. She puts a slight crack in her voice as though she’s distressed by the prospect of me not needing her support.

What are you experiences with Sensus satnav?
