I have a 97' v40 1.8 (the Volvo engine) don't have the on board info centre but I've worked my mpg out to around 32 on motorways at 65mph ish and 25 around town. I'm pretty happy with that but do miss 50 to the gallon out of my old Audi A3 tdi!

If you are interested in reducing your fuel consumption there are some useful guides about, one of them can be found here:

http://www.eta.co.uk/green_driving

I have a 1.8 GDi with 120k on the clock, and I can average 40 mpg (urban) and use CC whenever I can, even on 30mph roads.

Heavy feet are heavy on fuel.

I wouldn't know - I filled up on UK vpower before and after the Tunnel (on the way back), also the fuel price is higher than ours, 1.45 euros per litre for vpower IIRC.

My old S40 2.0T used to do 32-34mpg on a motorway run, worst case would be around 25mpg with foot flat down, this is using the trip computer, if your boost pressure is down or engine not running well you can notice that the mpg can drop 4-5 at least.

I don't have a posh computer in my 1.8 auto but my last tank went to 437.8 miles before I re-filled. I'm happy with that it's very close to that of my previous car a mk1 ford mondeo 2 litre ghia manual.

In my '99 V40 T4 (manual, 130k miles, running shell vpower) I used to get 34pmg on the dash readout for motorways, 30 for sensible town driving, or 22 for booting it. I then replaced the fuel pump with one of those walbro ones, and it's dropped to 29/25/20. Doh!

I also have a '96 2.5 20v 850 estate (auto, 196k miles) and that does 33 on motorway or 29 around town.

I often have canoes on the roof, and that seems to affect the 850 more than the v40. Not sure why? Also, in the 850 if I've got a canoe on the roof, it only drops by another 3 or 4 mpg when I drag the caravan behind me as well. I thought it would have a lot more effect. Volvos are amazing!

However if it's a full moon it all changes...
