Auxiliary belt and Cambelt so yes, there are two.

Which one did you have changed last year?

Was it a dealer service & was the belt changed at the dealer previously ?

If it was done outside of the dealer record the change won't be noted against the history so when the car comes back into the dealer it's flagged as needed.

My previous XC60 had almost the same issue, a local dealer to me changed the alternator under warranty as the bearing were rumbling but didn't note that the belt had been changed. So next service at my now preferred dealer (In York) flagged up it needed a new belt on the car's records.

My preferred dealer did the legwork rather than change blindly & contacted the dealer that changed the alternator to confirm the swap so I didn't end up having it changed twice in about 4,000 miles, saving me a bit on the service.

both the belts should be changed every 10 years or 150,000 miles it seems your 10 years are up , why did they change it a year early and why didn't they change them both as required ? I would ask the ones who did it . and what parts they used .

Thumbs up Thanks so much

Hi guys thanks so much for the replies.

Decided to go to the Volvo dealership in Huddersfield to get the CAM belt changed as apparently the 2009 engines are a "nightmare" something to do with having to lock a pin in something that the modern engines don't have to anymore.

I think the one that got changed last time (the one I can see) was done because they were having to do something on a warranty job (some sort of bottom gasket leaking?) as said it would be worth doing at the same time I think as needed to be changed soon anyhow or they were changing a part under warranty that then might have flagged the need to change the belt at the same time. I think that's how it went!!

Anyhow,
I negotiated it being done for £550 including an air con service! apparently it took 4-5 hours and the technicians were cursing me!! no surprise then they didn't have time to wash the car for free since it wasn't finished til 6pm!!

At least they lent me the managers V90 to "play with" for the day....Which of course I obliged!

the volvo time for doing the cambelt and aux belt is 1.5 hours , I hope they did not charge you any more to cover their inexperience , the engine is the same mechanically as all the 5 cylinder diesels from 2002 to 2014 they must have done hundreds surely ...

yeah the service guy did say it should only be 1.5 hours but realistically takes much longer.

I think the parts cost quite a bit too and I accept I will pay a a lot more for a main dealership but I guess at the end of the day I just want reassurance its been done properly to last the next 100k miles!!!

Bristol Street Motors wanted £500 too!, said the same, that it has to be a Volvo part and it takes 2 hours.

Well its done now and hopefully I can enjoy some worry free motoring for a good while. At least all the four heated seats still work going into winter!!

The v90 was awesome by the way!!!! very tempting!!
