Default Driving in Mainland Europe.

I recently took my UK registered XC60 D5 MY2016 to Germany for a 1355 mile round trip in 2 days. This was done at very short notice. Three of us took it in turn to drive.
What really confused me was whether there was a need for beam deflectors to be used, (the car has the bendy headlamps) and also if the speedometer gave a display in km/h.
What little information there is, is utterly confusing.
I didn't fit the beam deflectors.
I assumed the only speedometer display available is the one about the size of a little finger nail when selected by rotating the knob on the indicator stalk. The owners handbook is as much use as an ashtray on a motorcycle and the electronic handbook loaded in the car is even worse. Does any member know why Volvo is so bad with giving users information on this subject.

My handbook clearly states that the beam pattern is flat and that there is no adjustment possible or required for driving on the continent.
I too, am perplexed as to why there is no provision for a larger km/h readout though, esp as half of my mileage is done in Europe.

Have you the Active High Beam lights or just the bendy ones ?

My car with the Active High Beams has a setting to adjust to Driving on the Right buried in the settings menu.

Yep the silly KMH display is a bit of an oversight, my old 1980 MG Maestro could switch between MPH or KMH at the press of a button.

My car has bendy lights but also there's a setting in the menu for setting them to right hand traffic. It can only be changed with the vehicle static.

My previous wheels , a Civic SR Tourer had the facility to change MPH to KPH and I foolishly assumed that all modern cars would be the same.
I will be spending 3 months on the mainland and given the enthusiastic French Gendarmes I would like to see my speed in KPH.
I have looked long and hard but for the life of me I cannot see how to do it in my MY16 XC60.

Easy and plug-and play: fit a CFE+ from volvotech:

That seems to be a lot of money to solve a simple software issue that Volvo could solve with an update!

I looked for a way to change MPH to KPH but found it didn't matter. The SatNav converted the speed limits from KPH into MPH and displayed them so I just made sure I didn't go over using that

Must admit when I drove to Hockenheim last year not having the large KMH display didn't really bother me that much, very soon got used to knowing that 130 kmh equates to approx 80mph 100 to 60 etc.

There is a means of showing Kmph; only as a small display. on the LHS Really strange there is no option to switch the main speed display between mph and kmph. An easy software thing to do.

Euro cars don't have a MPH option either; even on analogue speedos. Only uk cars have both scales.
