2008 D5 SE model
Sold my 56 plate XC90 a month or so ago privately. More recently I bought a phase 1 petrol V70, 1 owner low mileage as a weekend fettling hobby/club runs with the Scottish owners section.
Today I saw an 08 plate mk3 with the D5 engine (same as my XC90?) and did the deal for a shade over £5k. It's on 93000 miles with 2 owners and FSH. Options look like upgraded alloys (possibly sport?) and full leather. Aside from the electronic parking brake, which is new to me for Volvo, but did have it on a 2013 5 series BMW and was really easy to use, though it's a pig on my partners A3, are there any weak points on the car. Timing belt will need doing and the auxiliary belt as well? Your thoughts, insight are much appreciated. It's got rear parking sensors which are standard. I believe the turning circle is improved on the P2 models which I have had in the past. |

Parking sensors aren't standard on the SE, mine doesn't have them!! There's nothing to worry about on these, EPB is usually very reliable, engines live forever, fuel economy isn't great but better than an XC90. That's about it, they are fairly reliable cars. Only thing is the windscreen leaking due to poor bonding on some cars but it doesn't affect them all
Edit, it looks like an SE Sport? Does it have ventilated seats and 4C? If so it's an SE Sport, nice set of toys

Check that it's had the auxiliary belt and tensioner changed. These were / are a problem if not changed the aux belt can fail and gets wrapped around the timing belt ,killing the engine ! Should have been changed every 56k . Another weak point is the rear trailing arm front bush. They delaminate and becomes very noisy . Front suspension doesn't last as long as earlier marks and although it damps OK with no bounce the ride becomes harsh and noisy.

You might be a bit premature on doing the timimg belt but I'd get the aux belt done if it hasn't been done recently and you might as well do the timing belt at the same time.
Check your power steering, if it loses assistance at low rpm you need to change the pipes, PAS and pump as the pipes can break down. I've got a noisy rack but it isn't that fault. |

Nice car and I agree looks like a sport ie should have 4C ie 3 buttons at the bottom in front of the gear lever. Ventilated (and heated) seats are fab. I have had issues with reversing sensors, had them dried out and worked fine, now iffy again. 33mpg the way I drive it but love the car. I have has the leaking front screen issue so suggest you check it out, better prevention than masses of water leaking. My powersteering is tempramental, have had new cistern, had it bled but left it to that as its only bad sometimes and never when on the road. I have done the rear trailing bushes, made a big difference, ( a sign is that inside rear tyres start to wear.)I love these alloys BUT to be honest its comfier on my 16" winter wheels, very much due to the state of our roads. I am ok with the auto hand brake but prefer to release it manually, makes it smoother to move off. Good luck with it.

Guys, thanks for all the informative replies.
I'm sure it's not an SE sport, just an SE with options? There is no 4c suspension buttons in from of the manual gear lever. However there is parking sensors in the lower rear bumper, also sand leather seats, 18 inch sport alloy wheels (checked the 2008 brochure). |
