Default 12v Cigarette lighter fuse (f45)....always blowing.

Please can you help?

I have a V50 1.8 SE (2005)

I have owned this car for around 18 months now and in that time (with very little usage) the cigarette lighter (x2) have blown the f45 15amp fuse around 5 times. Only use a TomTom once a month for an hour or so at the most.
Have tried a 20amp, which was also blown.

Please! Does anyone have any advise as to what might be the cause here?

Thank you very much.

Default lighter holder

look closely inside the lighter holder, making sure nothing has dropped onto the contacts,a coin for example

Could a metal cigarette car light be causing this (some kind of shorting out)? It is never used but sits in the socket.

This happens quite often its poor quality or loose ends on power plugs on devices shorting the socket out .

is it actually a cigarette lighter socket or an accessory socket? If its a cigarette lighter socket then it will blow fuses when plugging in a sta nav or some other accessory! We have people coming into work all the time with this problem, the cigarette lighter ones aren't designed for accessories and will blow fuses if you look at a cigarette lighter socket and an accessory socket they are different!

yes they are both different , the accessory socket has no bi metalic spring to hold the lighter element ,
BUT the standard cig lighter socket has been around for the last 50 years and that is what your device plug was designed to fit . These device plugs have been around far longer than "power sockets" which appeared about 10 years ago , so will fit both types of socket... they have to for compatibility , you cant have a navigation device or lantern for example which won't fit a standard Cig lighter socket ...

Can someone please tell me where I can find the fuse for the cig lighter. Mine blew when I tried to attach an air inflator for my tyres.

I have looked in fuse box under bonnet on passenger side but there is no indication on the cover, for a fuse position for the cig lighter.

Thanks in advance

I blew my Electrical Socket fuse today blowing up my tyres, so looked out the Owner's Manual to find that the 15A fuse in position 46 would be the culprit!

My fuse box has a 5A fuse in that position, but on removing it, saw that it was intact!

I saw from the manual that position 43 was a reserve but had a 15A fuse in that position, which I presumed was a spare fuse! Never presume, I removed it and the CD player turned off? My manual shows position 44 as the music system!!

The bottom line is that I searched the internet and found an online manual which is different from the hard copy I have! I suspect that I have blown fuse 45 and will check that in the morning!

Anyone else got the wrong fuse diagram?
