Default 940 Turbo - White smoke (with a hint of blue)

For the regulars on here, you may remember me from last month (940 Turbo that wouldn't start).

Well, the car now starts & runs on the drive with no problems at all (very slight smoking occasionally, but I figured this was just from all the excess fuel from the failed FPR (fuel pressure regulator)). I was all booked in for an MOT this morning, so checked all the obvious at home (lights, oil, water, tyres, etc etc), and set off.

There was a small puff of smoke as I pulled out the drive, but figured this was ok, as the car hasn't been driven anywhere since I got it running. However, once I hit the national limit (1/4 of a mile away), and gave it more than a tickle of throttle, I got a LOT of smoke (white/grey with a hint of blue), I then put my foot down harder & could no longer see the road behind me ! The smoke is White/very light grey with a hint of blue occasionally, but there were clouds & clouds of it ! As soon as I backed right off (throttle, not speed), the smoke almost disappeared.

I probably drove it 2 or 3 miles (small loop to get home again), and it was smoking less by the time I got home, but when using full throttle it was still belching smoke.

Going on other threads, this sounds like failed head gasket, rather than turbo, as turbo should be black smoke ?

I've just been outside (now it's cooled down), and the water is very dark, but still has it's blue anti-freeze look/small (no mayo in the header tank). The oil however, is very thin again, and smells of petrol (the car has had an oil change since the FPR was replaced).

Any suggestions ?
(I'm getting a bit fed up of this car ! )

when i had a 940 se 2.0 , it started to give out loads and loads of white smoke, not all the time . everything behind me disappeared in the fog. i decided to replace the turbo and the car ran beautifully, no smoke, pulled really well. so i can only presume that you turbo is on its way out, prob worth checking with other members.

Thumbs down

Mine did this - just before the turbo died .
New turbo, no more white smoke.
Sorry if this sounds negative.....

Unhappy

Thanks for the replies gents.

Doesn't sound too promising ! Starting to think I might give up with this one & sell on ebay as a "spares or repair" which is ironically how I bought it for an "intermittant spark" issue... Looks like I may have been told a bit of a white lie
