Finished creating my redneck bluetooth hardwire installation from a retro JVC FM modulator and a generic bluetooth receiver from eBay, along with a couple of adapters for the aerial DIN cables.

Tested, installed and commissioned later on and it works perfectly! I intend to change the bluetooth receiver for an auxiliary 3.5mm jack at some point but need to think about a suitable mounting point. Audio is fed to the modulator via standard RCA cables.

The mighty T4, aka seargent silver, is very nearly ready to drive once again, I outsourced the main bulk of the work to a very highly recommend and reputable local independent garage, they've removed my old engine, swapped all the ancillaries over to the replacement one, including all new gaskets and a new timing belt, water pump, a pair of cam seals, as these were both either missing or damaged, on the 3rd attempt, despite using my vin there were problems sourcing the correct clutch, apparently my 2002 car has a gearbox in that it isn't supposed to, the larger splined unit only being fitted to 03 onwards cars apparently, but the correct one was sourced from Sweden, also replacing the modern equivalent to a clutch cylinder, concentric something or other, that's done, and a full service on the new engine too, all going back into the car this week, I thought that £1200 all in was very reasonable.

All that remains is to get the car come, swap the parts over from the dead SE (the parts list is LONG haha) take the car to work and get my colleague to get tiggy with the exhaust and the 200 cell cat I bought, then to secure an MOT!

Auxillary belt shredded last night. I was only about a mile or two from home so I was able to drive it back.

This morning I got the old belt off, and you ought to see it!

The car is a diesel, and seems even more congested under the bonnet than any V40 I've owned so far. Right next to the pulleys is a strange black box which makes things even more awkward. It's difficult to see exactly how this is supposed to be dismantled - everything is in the way of everything else! I think I might just about be able to thread a new belt in the gap.

I'm confused by the order of the pulleys though. Has anyone got a diagram?

owned this V40 diesel for almost 3 years and finally had to do something! Replaced fuel filter because the engine was surging! Can't believe how easy this car is to work on.

Seems to be a marmite car sometimes, fuel filters on the diesels are indeed very easy as are the air and oil (although Renault in their wisdom decided to mount it at a right angle which just makes a mess when taking it off) and the cabin filter is pretty easy too. But as mentioned above some things like the auxiliary belt are a pig!

Not done much to the S40 lately as I don't like working in sideways rain if possible...

However, an unusual bit of trim picked up from a scrap V40 was the soft bit of the kick panel on the drivers side, mine seemed to have been in contact with someone who wore a garden rake on the end of their shoes or something and was very tatty indeed. New one now installed.

At the same time have the interior a very thorough going over with the Henry and used some TurtleWax power out on the carpets and mats and does a reasonable job at £notverymuch per can. Considering new bespoke mats through as the drivers one in particular is starting to look tired.

I tried to change the aerial, since the old one was making a loud clunking noise when it raised and lowered, although it was supposed to be easy, it really wasn't.

Ended up having to take apart the motor mechanism to get the old aerial out. But it is fixed now!

Surface corrosion on a brake pipe and a steering rack gaitor, also ball joint covers were on the minor fault list (which I don't believe are a failure) so I'll do them while I'm at it, all in all im calling that a win, as I knew the car being sat on grass for nearly 18 months was always a dangerous game to be playing.

Well it's the annual test time, ITV.
The SRS light has been on for ages (it usually is when someone sits in the passenger seat) but my Foxwell 630 will turn it out. WRONG! Same old Intermittent fault with SIPS bag connection. PLUS SRS unit permanent fault! Oh no! Tried several times to erase the codes but no good.
Replaced it with the old unit, only the Intermittent fault showing but it will not put it out!
Checked connections to no avail.
Taking it for test to see if it fails on anything else in the morning. It's difficult to get tests here at the moment but a retest is no problem.
