Moving back to the original subject, even though the Statler and Waldorf clip was worth the diversion, KYB shocks/dampers/motion control devices are readily available via fleabay, inexpensive and of decent quality. I've got them at both ends of the Exxon Valdez.

Very true, i've got KYBs all round on mine from fleabay and Suplex (a subsidiary of Lesjofors i believe - Lesjofors were OE manufacturers to Volvo and others) and it rides very nicely.

Have we put the OP off with all the chat about what a damper also refered to as a shock absorber is?

OP wants Nivos.

Does OP already have Nivos?

If yes then just replace the Nivos with new or used

If no then OP will need both a set of Nivos and a pair of Nivo rear springs. The other option I have found works well with them is a pair of 40mm rear lowering springs. Before anyone says you can use lowering springs with Nivos you can - it just does not lower. Nivo springs lower more than 40mm anyway when used without Nivos

Thanks all the replies, a very interesting read.

Have been a bit daft and ordered genuine Nivos, rear springs to match and front shocks, but the Volvo dealer said the front springs are NLA from Volvo, so will check on the sites as mentioned.

I’m surprised the front springs are no longer available. Volvo are usually pretty good when it comes to mechanical essentials. They may have combined part numbers; e.g. one part now across the 700 and 900 series. So whilst the original 740 part number may be NLA Volvo may be able to supply a substitute. Worth having a look at some of the online Volvo parts sites to see what they say for your year/model. Watch that diesel and petrol are likely to be different.

I assume you have ordered one of the four back end Volvo Nivo kits. May I be so bold as to ask the price ... compared with FRF from whom I assume you also got a quote?

It is a bit extravagant, but hopefully it will handle a lot better, especially when towing.

For the rear springs, Nivos, and front shocks, its just short of £1000. that's not includeing fitting, and I cant do it, so I hope to win the lottery next week, it might help if I bought a ticket.

I thought it strange that I was told Volvo didn't do the front springs, will look into that.

Many Thanks

Andrew
