After a run to Clive Brook Volvo in Huddersfield a couple of weekends ago - for their Heritage Club Saturday Meet and well worthwhile - I had the car up on the ramps for an inspection by their mechanic. The gear linkage is tight, with no noticeable wear; the only transmission-related issue is that the propshaft centre bearing is delaminating/failing so it's down for replacement.

There's nothing fouling the clutch pedal (as Laird Scooby suggested checking) and I set up the seat so I can depress the clutch pedal fully.

I'm going to visit my local main dealer and order the gearbox oil on Saturday.

I had my clutch /brake fluid replaced last year as, when hot I couldn't change gear. Turned out the the fluid in the clutch hadn't been changed (on 160,000 miles) and had absorbed moisture. Much better now.....

That probably means your brake fluid was just as bad!

I have two litres of Comma MVMTF Plus 75w80 API-GL4 fully synth to put in my M90, I have contacted Comma and they claim this is a direct replacement for the Volvo 97308 spec oil which is for the M90 and backwards compatible with the older boxes, and viscosity is within very tight tolerances even at extremes of use temp wise etc.

Is this stuff going to do the job? Comma are 200% sure it's a like-for-like replacement and will be fine, but I don't want to take any chances with this stuff of course.

I don't know if it's scaremongering Phil but I've always been told you should stick to the Volvo stuff as the M90 box doesn't like anything else. Other much more experienced people may tell you otherwise.

Think it's about £14 a litre but I can double check as I picked up some last week from main dealer

Dai,

Yes, I'm very much aware of that as I've rebuilt one myself. I was referring to this particular statement.........
