Cool Fuse box bracket

I had some corner brackets "in stock" (originally they would've come from B & Q or screwfix or something like that) and I went and got some small bolts, nuts and washers and I made the thing I was on about for the fuse box mounting. Photos attached.

The only slight thing is now the fuse box is quite far over and fouls the hose to the brake servo. If I did it again I'd make a "C" shape out of the brackets rather than an "S" shape.

What I did was:
- drilled out a bigger hole (6.5mm) in the brackets for mount onto the bodywork, so the existing bolts would fit
- used small nuts, bolts and washers to bolt two brackets together
- and with suitable washers to allow fuse box mounts to sit on top of brackets.

Interestingly enough, while doing this I noticed the hose from the purge valve to the air inlet trunking had come off. I hacked it back on for now but the weird thing is I am sure the car is a little down on power just after that! Seems a tad odd, as if it had any affet then presumably the very small hole in the air inlet trunking (after the MAF) would've introduced unmetered air and made it run worse?... ah well, looks like I might have to get a new air inlet hose as I bet you that stupid plug isn't available separately

Anyway, back to the subject in hand. Hopefully it can be seen what I did, and it seems alright and lowers the fuse box considerably. It flexes no more than it did when mounted in the original position. Do the nuts up tight enough and put the fuse box on top of the brackets so the brackets, not just a nut, support it. But as I say I would try reversing the brackets if you follow this approach to make a "C" shape and bring the fuse box further to the n/s of the car and away from those hoses.

Cheers,
Pete

I'm thinking of just getting a peice of flat metal drilling two holes in either end and just mounting the fuse box under it's bracket instead of on top, getting some longer bolts and nuts and using the piece of metal underneath to add some support to the box!!!

Will post some pics if it works!!

Well I think I did a better job of the pictures 2nd time around, even if I do say so myself! Must have had too much caffine last time, couldn't avoid the shakes (Although really the poxy phone should be able to sort out most of that but it obviously wasn't up to spec...)
