Default Loose/sloppy gear change- easy fix?

Hi all,

The gear change in my V70 T5 is a bit sloppy/loose, particularly when it's in gear- the stick can be shaken about all over the place.

Given the miles are high (135k) I assumed it was the linkage bushes being worn, so jumped on the net to pick up a bush replacement kit. Problem is, no-one does one. Loads for the V50, but nada for a V70.

Am I missing something obvious here, or is there a fix to this issue I don't know about...

Thanks.

Hi I would think that it ought not to be sloppy. My v70 is 2000 t 5 at 135k and gear stick is tight as was my previous on at 215k. Get it checked out at Indie specialist.

Yours James

That's what worries me!

However, is it as tight as a 35k car?

Had the same and it was in the gear stick assembly. Not the linkages but slop in the ball the gearstick rotates in.

I removed the centre console and then the plastic retainer holding the lever down. Then cut a round piece of plastic about 25 thou thick to increase the thrust and stop the lever wobbling around. Did the trick and took all of the play out of the gear lever.

Easy to check - if you can lift the gear stick up and down then its lost its preload.

Dear Meenrod, did this fix your problem? I seem to have the same wobbly gearshifter (V70, 133k). Got better after the indy garage replaced the pin that holds the gear lever but has come back after a few weeks. Thanks.
