Default Wheel Bearing Failure at 48K miles?

It seems that my front passenger side wheel bearing needs replacing with 48,000 miles on the clock.

It seems a common volvo problem from what i've seen. Has anyone managed to get this covered or part-covered by volvo?

It is indeed. One of mine went at 32k miles and 3yrs and 2 months. Luckily because I vought the car when it was 15 months old and Volvo supplied a 2 yr warranty (remainder of 3yr warranty plus a few months of Volvo Warranty Services to make up the difference) they paid out under the extended part.

The work wasn't carried out at a Volvo dealer either, they just sent me a cheque.

Are you in any such cover period? If not, I'd be surpised if they pay out but as others have said, if you don't ask you don't get.

Mine went at a similar mileage, well the first at about 55K and the second at 70K - Volvo paid half the cost of the second one without me even asking and even although it was outwith warranty - Dealer said it was automatic.

The new ones must be better designed as they've done nearly 80,000 miles without problem
