Default Strange problem

Bit of a strange one this... We had just done some shopping, loaded the car up and I started the engine, it sounded a bit rough and the revs were lower than usual, so I tried to rev the engine, I say tried to but the accelerator pedal didn't work Then a huge cloud of black smoke came out of the exhaust pipe and cleared, I left it idling for another minute or so and switched off. Started it again and the accelerator was still the same, the after another minute or so (after me putting the car in reverse for about 6 inches) the pedal worked and the car was fine, which it has been ever since

Has anyone else had similar problems to me??

Sounds as if your DPF is clogging up.

I would say that the Throttle Body needs a clean. On the forum is an excellent guide on how to clean it. Takes about 15 mins, lots of rag and carb cleaner. Give it a go.

Funnily enough I did give that a clean last week, before this problem occurred...

I've checked the vin number and the eighth digit is a 3. On my V5 logbook it says V50 S D (E4)

I think with a "3" you are DPF free. Could it be the EGR Valve playing up? My money would have been on the Throttle Body though.

It is your throttle sticking for sure , cleaning it wont cure it as it sticks because the plastic housing is distorted .

I had this a while back. Would chamfering the edges help as some have suggested?

yes it would for a while :-)
but you don't want much air leaking past when shut or if the engine started running on its own oil due to wear or a fault it would be impossible to stop it self destructing .
