Default Dynamo to Alternator conversion (B20 LHD)

Good Afternoon All,

Thought I’d share the successful Dynamo to Alternator conversion I’ve recently completed.
(with some very-handy guidance from the brilliant Noddy at Deaconcraft)

Noddy & Junior at Deaconcraft really are brilliant.

Top blokes, highly skilled, tremendously knowledgeable and helpful.

Absolutely my regular garage, great workmanship and guidance

Give them a call and your wheels would be in the of best hands - for sure.

See attached images of the job, including the rewiring, end result.

In addition to the rewiring, a new & shorter belt than that which was in-play with the dynamo was also needed.

Approx. one month since the above / attached installation with lots of driving done since and all is good under the Amazon hood !!

Alternator purchased via Brookhouse.

Cheers !

Will the 12 volt dynamo from B18 fit onto B16?

There is actually a 6v alternator, but good luck finding one.

Derek;

As you probably know, but I'll state it for those interested and following...whether an Alt is a "12 or 6V" is strictly a function of the VReg (in the case of the one you show, internal module, but could just as easily be an external VReg), and not really a function of the rest of Alt internals...VReg has an internal voltage reference, against which it monitors vehicle buss voltage (determined by Battery state of charge, and Loads) and when lower than this reference, controls Alt Field current to enable output current...I expect a standard Bosch Alt intended for 12V service, could be turned into a 6V version by simply replacing the VReg module.

What is source of picture of Delco Alt on B16? Can you possibly also post a picture of bracket and interface with engine block below.

Cheers

Edit: I request permission to repost the two Bosch pix to Volvoniacs forum in association with a request for info on this part...there are some sharp elec guys there...maybe someone has the Bosch PN of VReg module.
