Hi,
Seems like you fell on your feet there.. I would get the warranty - as injectors can be.... Expensive.. JIC Des. . .

Yes, I intend to. I will have to check exactly what the warranty covers but if it covers plenty of things I won't hesitate to buy it. So, looks like I'm about to become a full time member of this forum.

You didn't seem to certian about the first one, so you have lost a little but at least you walked away.
The second one sounds OK. As for the warranty, if its not a franchised Volvo Dealer warranty I wouldn't bother extending it, those other warranty companies are as much use as a wet as a paint brush is to a merchant banker. I have had some of those warranties with other cars in the past and when I went to conatct them due to faults, I was passed from person to person and excuse to excuse. Personally I'd save the £200 and spend it on petrol or put it aside to spend during the next service etc. |

Sounds like you landed on your feet.
Check the cambelt and other belts were changed at 96k and you should be set. I would imagine with that mileage the injectors have already been looked at. You could always pop into your local friendly Volvo dealer and find out what info. Volvo have on this car. SE spec is much better than the S you originally looked at. You should have an upgraded stereo, and electric seats among other things as standard now. It will be a EuroIII car so will give better fuel economy than the later cars too.

Warranty
DSK: I've looked in depth at the extended warranty information and I think you're right... there seems to be far too many get-out clauses. If something massive goes like the gearbox or engine blowing then it'll be handy but other than that it would be a waste of £200.
GMcL: The car has a full service history with my local Volvo main dealer so the timing belt etc should have been sorted. It's a March 2003 car so I was hoping that the injector problem wouldn't be an issue but it's a chance worth taking I think. The price seems so good that even if I had to spend £1500 on injectors it wouldn't be the end of the world (fingers crossed). More bad news today: Some a**hole ran into our VW Touran hire car today and b*ggered off without leaving a note. We have the hire car because my 4 year old son and I were nearly killed in a near fatal road accident 6 weeks ago. That's why we bought the V70 as our other car was a write-off. The day after our bad accident some kind soul smashed the mirror off the hire car and also took off. To say that I am at the end of my tether with cars is an understatement. Today was the last straw! Luckily I had a chat with the security at the multi-storey and they managed to find the incident on camera. It was a woman driver (surprise!) in a Ford Transit. The company's name was on the side of the van. I phoned up the company boss and gave him both barrels. I then phoned the hire company who said that I would have to pay £100 excess even though it wasn't my fault!!!! So in temper I brought in the bobbies who have told the boss to get it sorted out before Sunday or they would take action against the woman for leaving the scene of an accident. So we'll see what transpires. Now I am going to drink myself senseless and try and get some sleep. Thanks for listening. |
