Default 75,000/6 year service

Although my car has only done 40k, its the 6 year service.

The service cost including VOC discount and replacing the main sprung tensioned pulley with a fixed pulley and stretchy belt is £580 (£160 for pulley and betls).
Brake pads and front discs also needed at £438 inc brake fluid - I got 10% disc on this so £395.
All in this service £975.
Does this seem reasonable cost to pay from a main dealer?

Thanks

They'll be rubbing their hands when you turn up that day! I wouldn't pay that to be honest.

Possibly get them to do the 'service' and stamp the book but get the brakes done elsewhere (maybe do the brakes yourself?).

I had a mate with a BMW who religiously kept the oh-so-important history fully stamped up but he never ever let them near the brakes on grounds of cost.

To be honest the dealer can only really advice you that the brakes need doing they can't insist that it's part of a routine service. Brakes are brakes; they wear out - they don't affect the general condition of the car overall. Even if you left the pads right down to the rivets you'd only score the discs and it doesn't matter who fits the new ones does it? no-one really cares.

I've got them to do it as they have said they are beyond their legal limit and it would be risky to drive but I'm taking it somewhere else next time the brakes need doing.

Oh ok, but they've been a bit cheeky here playing the 'legal/safety' card IMO, heck, you got the car down there all right didn't you?

Make sure you drink all their coffee when you get down there (payback).

Got the car back yesterday, brakes all done, belt (see squeaky belts thread) all done and service.
They even washed the car and vacuumed it - I should think so for £975 too!

I think and quite posibly it was 'sales talk' but when they said the discs/pads were unsafe/below the limit then I didnt want to take any chances and got them to do it. Kwick-fit probably would have charges half the price.

I think you were wise to get brakes done by Volvo. Mainly because the dealer will use genuine Volvo parts.

With aftermarket brake parts, in my experience there is a good chance that the brakes will squeal.

Actually they'd be more likely to go for ALL the discs and pads and a brake fluid change and probably more........

Brake fluid was £50, part of the £395 cost for prts and labour.

If I had the time I could do it myself or take it elsewhere. I dont and as they said it wasnt safe I didnt take any chances.
Should be ok for another 40k.
