Not only will the bmw pull off into the horizon, it'll also be getting better MPG

2.0d is only TRUELY fast uphill between 20-and 55mph. After that, a big lack of bhp will be evident by looking at the speedo. Still atleast the torque is always there as a nice placebo!

You really have to love 4th gear, everyone seems to comment it. It'll pull perfectly from 30mph and keep going to 109!

My 2.0d c30 doesnt feel as fast as an equivalent focus, although it is if not quicker. but the esp systems are different though and i dunno if the volvo just reigns in more of its power. Ford seem to wheel spin more easily and you clearly feel the esp interfeering but the volvo never sprins up and i never notice the esp, but if i turn it off the engine feels alot less restricted and a whole lot torqueyer. I dunno if the same goes for the T5. (i do love how i can turn it off you cant do that on fords, and when you can it automatically kicks back in above 30 mph).
The simple answer... it doesn't! Can't ever recalling my S40 T5 feeling slow or underpowered for a car of that type, whoever commented has never driven one obviously.

The ESP is pretty good actually, you can feel a lot more going on when you turn it off (although it's never truly off just set at a higher threshold)

It usually only cuts in jerkily when things get really out of hand. The S40 is a very similar weight to the Ford Focus anyway, so I doubt there's any real measurable performance difference aside from the effect of different gear ratios being used.

I think there's real world quick and circuit quick, you don't want to be driving like a madman most of the time, making quick progress without having to try too hard is quite nice too.

I could drive around revving to 3000rpm in a fairly relaxed way that would make a honda Civic tyre R driver have to work pretty hard, it's being quick-ish in the real world and relaxed that's the trick I reckon
