Lightbulb S80 VS S60 - Which one better?

Hello guys recently I'm thinking about buying 2003-2006 Volvo S80 or S60, there are a bit of price difference but I couldn't understand what pluses S80 has over s60 ? Is it like another level of car or just very similiar ? Any ideas would be great since I dont know much about those cars.

Bigger, more powerful, more rear legroom and quite more expensive to maintain.

If you can find a 2005-2009 S60 that would be your best bet

the big one is slower and more thirsty, not as many about.

the smaller one handles a bit more lively uses a little less fuel

The S60 can be restored by the user to keep the bills down

If you want a tasty car Id say go for a Bmer

The S60, V70 and S80 belongs to the same P2 platform. The mechanics and electronics are basicly the same and suffers from identical faults(and costs).

The bodywork differs, S60 has the shortest wheelbase and S80 the longest and V70 is in the middle. S60 and V70 have identical bodywork to the "B" pillar. S80 has it's own bodywork with large fenders and is the "luxury" model.

Here in Sweden V70 is the most selling car year after year and very popular as second hand. S80 is quite unpopular and can be bought cheap.

S60 is the best car to drive in my opinion, but it is a small car for two adults maximum. The V70 is the most practical car. The S80 is big, heavy and not very fun to drive. I have only driven a S80 with a 140 hp engine and probably it is more inspiring with a turbo engine.

Easy explained the S80 and the S60 is the same car except for the size, The S80 share all components such as brakes, suspension, steering, engine, gearbox etc with the S60 and V70.

In my opinion the S80 have a better sound dampening against roadnoise and ofcourse largers space inside compared to the S60 but other than that its the same car except for the design on the interior and exterior.

Maintenance cost is the same on the S60 and S80 since its the same itemnumbers on the wear and tear parts.
Due to its havier weight the S80 maybe wear the brakes etc faster than the S60 but it depends much how you drive the car.

Thumbs up

Thanks a lot for the fast replies !!!

I think I want the S80 a little bit more :-) Is this car has any chronical problems ? Like the turbo or transmisson needs to change every 100.000 KM etc. I am thinking about buying the turbo petrol model (2.0 T)

As long it have a complete service history it should not be any big issues, On the turbo version just make sure they use only fully synthetic oil when you leave it for yearly service.
Those engines really dont like low quality oil since it will mess upp the PCV system and will cost a lot of £ to repair.
If the shop want to put a mineral 10W-40 in your engine.. DONT!

Default S60 or S80

Had one S80 and two S60s,all three were d5 engines, the s80 was a much more comfortable car, better ride and for reasons i cant really explain it was much more reliable,in fact sold it to a friend and is on 194k at the mo,with everything being as new apart from new clutch 2 years ago.The s60 is better to drive, and smaller to park ! Leg room in the back is a bit tight, and the boot is smaller, its a difficult choice, think i prefer the "limo" feel of the s80.

Personally I think the S60 looks better but thats just me.

I had an S60 2.0T as a loan car and it was not a good engine. Considering it supposedly had 180HP it was considerably slower than a Saab 2.0T (185HP) I had previously. You had to really drive it hard to get it to go, I would think the diesel or T6 would be better for the bigger/heavier S80
