In my opinion if they were the last firm on earth I would not buy a Volvo from them, from personal experience! If you like throwing away money it would be less stessfull just to burn it!

My S60 came from there. Very helpful & pleasant service. Let me have the car for as long as I wanted for a test drive and had all (very minor) problems with the car that I picked up on the test drive sorted for when I picked up my car 5 days later.

They do seem to take forever to answer emails, and some of the cars are a little overpriced. But mine was about right (at the time) and I was very pleased.

Aside from buying my car there, I've not dealt with them again as I've not needed to, aside from asking them for my HPI certificate which arrived 7 days after I asked for it.

Default Or sold to them?

What about selling to Ravenscroft? Or dealing with them generally?

If I decide not to sell my S40 privately I was going to approach them first on the basis that their cars seem to be so overpriced I might get a good (trade) price from them!

Cheers,
Pete

You won't, their trade-in values are not exactly high!

I paid about £400 more than I would have done if I had bought a similar car privately and about £2000 less than a main dealer price but having said that, a lot of the current cars they have for sale are a little on the pricey side.

I would reccomend them still provided the price was right.

Hmmm... just wondered about it because they are a) not a dealer but b) specialising in volvos then they might be interested. Suppose it depends on their stock of T4s but then they always seem to have plenty of stock in.

Of course I could just ring them, but the problem with car dealers is that 99.9% of them won't even discuss a price until they've seen the car, by which time you've gone all the way there and let them faff with it for 1/2 hour or so. Of course they realise this, i.e if you've put in a bit of effort you'll be less likely to refuse their price.

But selling privately is IMO such a hassle, plus the fact that mine has some faults (as anyone reading the 40/50 forum probably knows by now!) and I would feel a bit guilty selling it to a private buyer like this (yes, I know, I'm too honest to make a good used car salesman...)

bring this topic back up.

Vovlo Selected Used Cars don't have any volvo s60's to my spec and price while the Ravenscroft crowd do.

Is it risky to buy from Ravenscroft without buying a warranty also?

You get a basic warranty from them anyway covering the main components and of course you'll get your usual SGA protection, but if you want something more comprehensive don't bother with what they'll offer you - try www.warrantydirect.co.uk

I found them really good to deal with. No problems since with my car nearly 12 months down the line!

Because I am importing to the UK a seperate warranty won't be viable.

Plus the s60 selected used car warranty is europe wide as it's a volvo warranty, not a dealer warranty.

Yeah I might take the gamble and get what I want rather than something which isn't spot on.
