One cause of warped brake discs is keeping your foot on the brake pedal after the car has stopped when the discs are very hot (such as following a long hill descent). Heat cannot escape from the part of the disc clamped by the caliper. This remains hotter than the rest of the disc which is exposed to air, resulting in warping.

That certainly was the case with heavy, auto cars which, in town driving, being held on the brakes at traffic lights would cause heat build up. Vented discs were then fitted to help with this issue.

It's worrying that they do appear to warp a lot easier but I cannot see the manufacturers rushing to fix this issue.
The tills are ringing so the dealer is happy, the manufacturer is happy and the inland revenue is happy. What's there to fix ? As long as the brakes last the distance between routine services appears to be the attitude these days.
