The ecu gets is warm/cold signal from the coldstart sensor (coolanttemp.sensor) which is located beneath the right hand plug. It has 2 terminals on a turbo. But I don't think this sensor is causing the high idle. It only raises the cold idle with appr.200revs. Most of the times such a high idle is caused by a vacuum leak somewhere in the system. So check and double check all the vacuum hoses. Another thing you should check is the idle valve in front of the plugs, it has 2 hose connected on top of it with a 2 pin connector. Remove and flush the innards with white spirit or some other solvent to remove dirt built up.

the other thing i forgot to mention is that its running very rich, and although boosting to 8psi, when u come off the throttle there is a big hesitation?
i must admit that there is no knock sensor attached could this have an effect?

If it's running very rich check for an air leak after the MAF. Also a non original (Bosch) lambda could result in running rich.
If the knock sensor is not connected the ecu will retard ignition with something like 10degrees, which can result in hesitation and loss of power.

previous comments were for the wrong engine variant,as mentioned could be a fault with the idle air control valve, does it buzz/open when the ignitions switched on ?

The knocksensor plugs in the ignition/turbocharge controle module (Bosch EZ210K) at connections 12&13. Don't know the colours of the wiring, you can look that up at the back of the module. To fit the knock sensor be sure you torque it exactly with 20nm. Any less or more torque and it can't function properly!

Cheers fellas sorted the knock sensor but still the same scenario, ive checked icv thats fine. So the only thing that i need to check is the engine temp sensor for the choke. Am i right in thinking that it is pin 2 (+) and pin 25(-) ?? Thanks for the help

Still having the same problem, everything else is working perfectly. tested the icv and cleaned it out, knock sensor is functioning correctly, lamba sensor is working. all hoses have been vacuum checked. the only thing that is not connected is the head temp sensor as i dont know where it wires into ( conversion on R5) as i said it runs sweet cold as it hits 70-80c it starts to lumpy idle and black smoke comes out. if i turn her off and back on while its still hot its even worse???
