Default dropping sump B20

my 144 is going in to my mechanic to have the neoprene rear seal conversion done and he has asked if the sump clears ok to be dropped for when the cover is removed and changed over.

not sure if any of you clever people know if dropping the sump is straight forward or a bit of a fiddle so I can give a heads up.

Cheers
Dan

In short, it depends on your luck I'm afraid. If the rear engine mount or in fact either of the side ones are a bit settled due perhaps oil leaks, it may be a problem. Perhaps a little bit of trolley-jack work on the gearbox may give enough clearance, but I would have thought they'd have to remove the engine to get at that rear seal?
The sump doesn't have to lower a lot - once the bolts are out it almost slides forwards before lowering. Get a new gasket though.

gearbox needs to come off,
the cheats way is to just use sealant to seal the plate to the sump.

You can drop the sump pan a little but it will not clear the pump without lifting the block up. If you are going that far pull the hole thing out and get teh front seal done at the same time
