Information
  • VOC Members: There is no login facility using your VOC membership number or the details from page 3 of the club magazine. You need to register in the normal way
  • AOL Customers: Make sure you check the 'Remember me' check box otherwise the AOL system may log you out during the session. This is a known issue with AOL.

I was having a look in the Handbook for my 164 to see if OK to use modern thin oil and found on the last page that after checking the oil level 'if necessary top up with brake fluid SAE J 1703'

Obviously a mistake of course. You can see the same line under Brake Fluid. What year is that handbook, shown at the bottom of the outside rear page.

That has to be a misprint, surely? I'm not sure what the consequences of following that instruction might be, but I'd be surprised if Volvo didn't do something about it at the time - issue an amendment / correction perhaps?

Maybe they did, and yours slipped through the net?

1973, the car was actually registered on 31st July 1973 the day before registration change.

Maybe no one ever looked at the page on what you should do when filing the tank
