Ignition switch position when reconnecting battery
Hi All,
Just scared myself (again) while browsing through my copy of VADIS. It says that when reconnecting the negative terminal on the battery, the ignition switch should be in position II. Seems to be related to accidental triggering of the airbags. It seems more logical to have the ignition switch firmly in the off position, rather than on. I've just fitted a new battery with no ill effects - am I just lucky or is this a chance in a million thing? Does anyone have the ignition on when reconnecting the battery?

I fitted a new battery onto my S70 today and no i just leave it off all the time, even when i used to disconnect to reset the lamba light
I wouldn't worry, but don't blame me tho if things go wrong!!!

Agree, it shouldn't be a problem as long as you haven't been working on the airbags.
The reason for putting the ignition switch in position II is that when the battery is re-connected, if the airbag(s) do go off they do so with no-body in the car rather than you sat in switching the ignition on and it going off in your face. This is really important if you've been working on the steering wheel airbag.
