Could you give a little more information.

Year/model/engine.

Instruments only or lights as well?

There are a lot of different dash modules fitted to the 850 series so more info may help.

Hi Chris, it's 1995, 850GLT Auto Estate, with the 2.5 engine, everything else works OK, even the sunroof which is on the same fuse as the dash, the whole of the dash falls except the clock which is in the information window, but none of the other information bits work, this happened yesterday, I went to sort it today and it was OK, so I took it for a spin to a friends house, stayed about an hour, came out and it has gone again. Any ideas would be a great help, as I have check all the connections under the dash and they didn't cure it. Many thanks, Chris.

There are two main types of dash fitted to the 850.

Common to both is:

Permanent live on terminal C:18 Red/ Black wire

Ignition switched live to dash via relay on terminal C:18 Blue / Red wire.

And earth connection on terminal C:17 Black wire.

I'd check these connetions first, there is an internal fuse on the switched live (C:18) terminal so it's possible that if the external connections are OK then is fuse or one of the internal tracks of the instrument cluster is showing an intermittent open circuit.

Try moving the key in the ignition slightly when the car is running, it may well be a dodgy ignition switch ( the electrical part). Doddle to change and about £37 from Volvo

Hi Peter, many thanks for the ignition trick, just tried and it's not that, still think it's a loose contact but at the moment it's cold out there and I can do without the car for a few days. if I can't find the fault does anyone now a good auto electrian in the Romford Essex area that can help,(I'm OK with 70's yanks but get very lost on newer cars), Once again many thanks to all who have tried to help. Chris.
