Default D5 - popping noise from oil filler hole/engine mount issue

When idling, if I remove the oil filler cap, I can hear a loud popping noise coming from my engine (2003 V70 D5 163bhp). I've taken a video on my phone, see:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkbyoarR7iw

It would appear that I have a vacuum issue. If I crimp the vac line where its enters the front engine mount, the problem goes away, so it looks like my front engine mount is defective/leaking vacuum.

CheshireD5 has some great videos that cover this problem, including this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QHLyubTrIQ8

So far the only symptom I have noticed is the popping noise whilst the oil cap is off and the engine idling. The car seems otherwise perfectly fine. The engine, turbo boost, and fuel economy all fantastic. Also, I have not noticed any bad vibrations or knocking either (despite the engine mount being shot).

Should I continue to drive the car until I manage to sort it out? (or could this lead to any future engine damage?)

I could apply a "temporary fix" by capping the vac line (to remove the front mount from the vacuum system). This would cure the popping noise/engine vac issue - but i'm not sure what effect it would have on engine vibrations etc - and given that I dont have any other bad symptoms, i'm wondering whether to do this.

Your thoughts please...

I don't know enough about the D5 engine to know whether this is normal behaviour or not? I didn't want to ignore it & run the risk of damaging anything.
