Unhappy V60 - noise from b-pillar area.

Hi All,

Ever since new, the car (V60 2017) has had this noise. It starts at around 80km/h, and becomes worse as speed increases, and also if the wind is strong/from the side.

The noise seems to be wind noise, though it can even sound as if something is moving around inside the b-pillar (rattling noise). The shop have tried with masking of both front and rear windows (right side), didnt stop it. Have tried opening and closing the rear side air vent, no changes either.

Opening and closing windows, didnt take it away either. The b-pillar cladding was removed, and the air duct behind it checked; didnt seem that this would cause this wind/rattling sound.

Its driving me absolutely crazy, now 42.000km down the line. My wifes V40 2017, is completely free from wind/rattling, in comparison with my V60...

Any ideas? Squicking door seals? Loose bits inside the b-pillar?

Added info: the garage also adjusted the door lock, with no effect at all.

I have noted, that if I drive on really rough roads, there seems to be some squeeking sounds, from the same area. Its not that loud, but still noticeable.

Maybe the door seal is the culprit?

May possibly be the seat belt retracting mechanism.
e.g. belt pulley rattling.
When you hear the noise try pulling on the belt to increase the tension momentarily. If the noise stops then your on the right track.

It could be exterior mirrors. Some xc60 owners had a similar problem on earlier models and a fix is available on this forum somewhere. Maybe try retracting mirrors whilst driving (only if it is safe to do so) and listen.

Thank you for the suggestions. I may have solved the problem actually: I addedd some silicone to the door seals, and it seems to have helped. Well, the rest of the week I will be enjoying scenic Norway, and see if it still works or not.

Thank you for the suggestions; if its still there after some driving in the mountains, I will look into what you suggest.
