Xc60 d5 220
Hi All
I'm toying with the idea of buying one of the above but I'm struggling to understand the differences between the 220 and 215 versions of the D5. If anyone can help or point me in the right direction I'd be grateful. Thanks |

Go for the 220, it is amazing. I got mine in May having changed from a BMW 318d. So far, it was without a doubt the best move I've made in my motoring experience.

its a great old engine in either version (cheaper to tax in 220ps), I love the engine after a 85000 miles...

Thanks for the responses.
So the auto box is the same just engine differences ? The quoted mpg figures are considerably better and I wondered if the 220 used the 8 speed auto. |

Get a manual if you can. Huge difference in performance and better fuel economy.
Love mine.

No, and that's the small 'problem' for some. The 5-cyclinder engines do not use the wonderful new 8-speed geartronic.

The old 5 speed auto is fine. It is a bit sluggish sometimes in 1st/2nd but you can push it over to sport or the Polestar upgrade sharpens it up. I have the flappy paddles which work well to get it really going in the lower gears. The box is very smooth and the D5 works well with it. I have a 220 D5 geartronic and love it.

It's a 6 speed auto on the 5 cylinder. Agreed it is a shame they didn't slot the 8 speed in for the last few years of its life, it would have been very quick then. 6 speed is Ok, not the quickest to respond but perfectly acceptable. Just watch the sealed for life service regime volvo claim!
